My lift stopped working — what should I do?

Practical tipAfter a power cut, lifts without ARD may stop between floors — your society should know the rescue procedure.
Can you repair another company's lift?
Yes — multi-brand repair after a safety survey. We diagnose door operators, controllers, hydraulic leaks and rope issues, then quote before major work. If spare parts no longer exist, we'll suggest modernization instead of pretending a cheap fix will last.
Practical tipTemporary wiring from a local mechanic often hides the real fault — proper diagnosis comes first.
When should we stop using the lift?
Stop if doors won't close properly, the car moves with doors open, you smell burning, feel sharp jerks, or entrapments keep repeating. We tag unsafe lifts out of service until repaired.
Practical tipIf the RWA says 'run it lightly', liability stays with the building — we can leave a written unsafe notice.
Why do NCR society lifts break down so often?
Common causes: misaligned door sensors, worn door operators, old controllers, voltage swings, hydraulic leaks and skipped maintenance. Many repeat faults trace back to no AMC visit for six months or more.
Practical tipAfter Diwali, door failures spike — check if sensors were taped over or overloaded.
Do you give a repair estimate before starting?
Yes for non-emergency work — diagnosis first, then parts and labour in writing. AMC jobs follow your contract. We won't start large repairs without approval, except immediate life-safety cases.
Practical tipIf the RWA treasurer needs a meeting to approve spend, the lift may stay off until then — we'll tell you upfront.
